Local drift talent has been searching for a legal outlet to practice and show off sliding skills. Fabricated Motorsports is just about to begin their annual solution to legal drifting. Lone Star Drift Pro Am kicks off the 2012 series March 17 at Gulf Greyhound Park in Houston. In conjunction with performance parts producer Non Stop Tuning’s 7th anniversary event, it is expected to draw a large crowd of import enthusiasts.

To participate, drivers must pay a $75 entry fee and bring a helmet. Convertibles need to be equipped with a roll bar, and tandem cars must have a full cage with door bars. To register, contact erinshill@gmail.com. This year, four Formula 1 Drift licenses for the 2013 seasons will be awarded to the top four points winners.

Last year, 23-year- old Chelsea Denofa from Seabrook, Texas took first place driving his E36 for Non Stop Tuning. This year’s known competitors include Houston drifters Team Silhouette. Members Robert Lee and Brad Burnett placed in the top four last series, each winning a Formula 1 drift license. CMS Performance is also sponsoring drivers for the upcoming event. Drifters from Houston-based community support organization Handicap Mafia are currently working on a full cage and Stephen Bayles will be competing to represent the group. Other members will be driving but not competing.

Spectators may attend Lone Star Drift events for only $10. Future locations include Dallas and San Antonio, but dates have not been released. To see a few competitors’ builds in progress and read recaps of last year’s event, visit Fabricated Motorsports online. Details are posted in their news updates at www.fabricatedmotorsports.com.
